As you may have heard in previous posts, global messages, and around IRC -- Slacknet Communications has been talking with the company I work for called The Umbrella Group about selling their assets to us. There are many reasons both sides were discussing such a business venture. The Slacknet Team wanted to be able to expand their IRC network and other projects, however they did not have the resources to do this. Umbrella was looking for new projects and ways to expand its business, so the conclusion was fairly simple; just discussing the details and finalizing a contract was the difficult part. Essentially all Slacknet projects, except the IRC network, are now being re-started under The Umbrella Group's project division. The IRC Network's management will be via a committee in which two server administrators from all servers vote on issues. Also, Slacknet IRC Network has switched from Hybrid and HybServ2 to Unreal and Anope. This, however, does not make us a cookie cutter network, as we have already started to customize both the IRCd and the services -- for example to log into this web site you use your IRC nickname and password. There are more details to come here soon. This post has been edited 1 time. |
